We’re spending significant time in the northern hemisphere this week, starting off with legendary Afghan Ghazal singer Dr. Mohammad Sadiq Fitrat a.k.a. Nashenas, and moving swiftly into contemporary hypnotic Thai sounds from Mogambo.
Trips to Sweden, Israel, and the UK follow, including the fabulous new recorder-led record from Laura Cannell, and surf-infused pop music from Armon בשחור לבן. We have more South Asian-influenced sounds from London’s Darama, whose debut EP tips a hat to UK funky and garage as well as Punjabi rhythms. We also have a stunning record from Sweden’s Shida Shahabi.
We dip under the equator briefly for a wonderful set of field recordings from Rio de Janeiro’s Verónica Cerrotta. Elsewhere, there’s the cracking spoken word metronomic sounds of Reigns, heavy Canadian noise from BUÑUEL and much more.
