#26 – Bo Ningen, Teeth of the Sea, The Bug, Dent May

Well this week’s podcast took some putting together. Both Gareth and Anthony aren’t in the usually professional mood that makes the Independent Music Podcast such an example of top quality broadcasting, but it doesn’t stop the banter – or the tunes – although that may be entirely down to Dent May, whose ability to polarise opinion comes out again. Elsewhere we make the case for guitar music, have a little more library music and some one-handed flute.

#24 – Solhorn, Balam Acab, Pictureplane, Tubby Hayes

After last week’s short podcast, Gareth and Anthony find the time in a hotel in Birmingham to put together something more lengthy and obtuse than what they’ve managed in a long time. From the old and beautiful of Dizzy Reece, Tubby Hayes and Rolf Harris, through to the ‘hottest track in Birmingham right now’ of Italy’s Husband, as well as the uber-rare hustlings of Denmark’s Solhorn, stopping off to appreciate The Slits as well as much more great new independent releases, this is a carst of sublime nonsense – just the ticket for a cold October week.

13.What A Wonderful World – Wyatt/Atzmon/Stephen (Domino Records, UK)

#23 – Becoming Real, Shady Bard, Mariner’s Children, Darren Hayman

Short and sweet this week, but at least Anthony’s back with a batch of records to mix it up a bit. Recorded in the noisy basement of London’s ‘The Slaughtered Lamb’, this week’s podcast brings together tropical funk, moany folk, multiple electronics and a song about bears…

#22 – The Budos Band, Gold Panda, Throwing Snow, Worriedaboutsatan

Gareth’s on his own again this week, so get set for a monotone trip into the eccentric world of independent music releases. From doom soul to jazz funk through witch house, chill wave and a whole host of nondescript genres, this week’s podcast, just like every week, is weird, wonderful and wholesome

#20 – Zola Jesus, Pretty Lights, Tweak Bird, Squarepusher

Everything’s a little ambient on this week’s Independent Music Podcast. We have songs about brushing your teeth from Kathryn Williams’ new project Crayonettes, we have exclusive first play of a track from the new PLUG record on Upset the Rhythm and we have beautiful tracks from Peter Broderick and Portugal’s Gala Drop.

9.Cryptic Motion – Squarepusher (Ed Banger Records, France)
10.Sea Talk – Zola Jesus (Souterrain Transmissions, Germany)

#19 – Esben & the Witch, Emeralds, Glasser, Ducktails

As the summer limps to a wet close (and wet clothes for those still braving festivals), the Independent Music Podcast continues to warm the cockles. This week we bring back Independent Band RIP – the feature where we play a track from an artist no longer with us. With RL Burnside having died five years ago this week, it’s only right we highlight his genius. Elsewhere, it’s another wildly different week – garage to ambient to weird noises – it’s just another IMP.

Tracklisting
1.Fast Motion – Becoming Real (Ramp Recordings, UK)
2.Weak Patterns – The Dictaphone (Kill Shaman Records, USA)
3.Tremel – Glasser (Young Turks, UK)
4.Mirror Image – Ducktails (Domino Recording Co., UK)

10.Oh The Manatee – Gallops (Holy Roar Records, UK)
11.Double Helix – Emeralds (Editions Mego, Austria)

#18 – Venetian Snares, Fostercare, Forest Swords, Dent May

After two weeks of DJ mixes, Gareth and Anthony come back together to talk nonsense and put across the best independent music releases out this week. An electronic opening gets fused with orchestral scores, disco pop and what we’re led to believe is ‘chillwave’ – but is just fantastic.

Tracklisting
1.My So Called Life – Venetian Snares (Planet Mu, UK)
2.Anytime – Fostercare (Clan Destine Records, UK)
3.International Dreambeat – Adebisi Shank (The Richter Collective, UK)

10.Crack Witches – Master Suspiria Vision (Robot Elephant Records, UK)

#17 – Forest Swords, Ty Segall, Soft Healer, Gablé (Gareth’s no speaking mix)

After Anthony’s electronic led mix last week, Gareth provides one completely different. Including a number of tracks released this week – including Forest Swords and Machinefabriek – his is somewhat more eerie, but no less amazing.

Tracklisting
1.Martin’s First Letter – Wisbey (Trunk Records, UK)
2.Rattling cage – Forest Swords (No Pain In Pop, UK)
3.Movie Light – Soft Healer (Captured Tracks, USA)
