#201 – DUDS, Sharron Kraus, Swindle, Sealionwoman, Rabit

The morning after the night before! We’re super grateful to all our amazing listeners, and we got a huge amount more for podcast 200. Hopefully those of you who came in on #200 are ready for #201, because we’ve got a whole new batch of amazing new sounds for your ears.

First up there’s the fantastic percussion of João Pais Filipe, who’s a member of Porto’s ace HHY & The Macumbas (featured on #197). In keeping with percussive experiments we also have the Domadana Kadodi Performers from Uganda released (of course) on the excellent Nyege Nyege Tapes.

Elsewhere we’ve got super experimental sounds from Emerging Industries of Wuppertal via Singapore’s ShanGORIL La Records, we have something closer to home in the UK’s nasty, noisy Blood Claat Orange.

To wash that down with got sublime jazz from Swindle, stunning folk from Sharron Kraus and a whole lot more…

No doubt it’s a more mellow podcast this week, kicking off with soft French chanson and taking time with drone from Love Theme, library-inspired sounds from ToiToiToi, and brilliant folk music from Richard Dawson. Elsewhere there’s an exceptional track off the new Jlin record, there is also some Cameroonian music from the latest Analog Africa compilation. Pop from Deerful, new Henry Wu, and the new single from The Mountain Goats.

#50 – Pye Corner Audio, Gum Takes Tooth, Dreadsquad, Graffiti Island

The same number of tracks as usual, squeezed into a tight 56 minute podcast. The main cause is Anthony’s desire for punchy, danceable music this week, although that’s not the impression you’d get from the opener – the blinding, epic Mirrors Fold from the brilliant Gum Takes Tooth. Elsewhere we’ve got the new one from Pye Corner Audio, we’ve also got the latest from Polish digidub producer Dreadsquad, a haunting tribute to the wonderful Jean Ritchie and much more

1.Mirrors Fold – Gum Takes Tooth (Tigertrap Records, UK)
2.Bamboo Disco – Yellow Peril Disco Group (Fresh Up Records, UK)
3.Machines are Obsolete – Pye Corner Audio (Ghost Box, UK)

#36 – Gold Panda, High Wolf, Ty Segall, Rayographs

A burglary is to blame for the delay, and the fact Anthony’s in charge of the mix this time around. Nonetheless, a track from the new Amon Tobin record, and Record Store Day tunes from Gold Panda and Ty Segall make this another unique installment of the Independent Music Podcast. Elsewhere we have advert jingles from Barry Gray, composer of the Thunderbirds theme, and tracks off long-awaited new albums from the Explosions in the Sky, Rayographs and Three Trapped Tigers.

10.Mind How You Go – The Advisory Circle (Ghost Box, UK)

#11 – The Advisory Circle, Wolf Parade, Alien Radio, Thee Oh Sees

Gareth’s on his own this week, which is pretty coincidental given that there’s a resurgence of library music getting a release this week. It’s less fashionable than usual but more interesting, with music ranging from South African electro to dubstep to a first play from the new Dent May album. Weird and wonderful personified
