#127 – Kelly Lee Owens, Flowers Must Die, Mirrored Lips, Shevek

Tapes seem to be the theme this week, whether it’s a new release available only on tape from Shevek, Ubek, or Sofia Ozdravovna, or if they are lost tapes of Ahmed Malek pressed to vinyl after 30 years away from the public, there’s loads of tape-related sounds this week. We’ve also got lots of exciting new music from Swedish psych band Flowers Must Die, London’s Kelly Lee Owens, and Russian punks Mirrored Lips.

Your first podcast of 2016 features lots of interesting new releases. Lots of rare, innovative and new music in the hour this week. We have new releases from Egyptian/Italian/New York producer Mutamassik, Bardo Pond, Colin Stetson and Arcade Fire’s Sarah Neufeld. There are new reissues from Parisian electro pioneer Bernard Fevre and a previously extremely rare Ghanian record from Ata Kak. Throw in a spectacular piece from Sun Ra and John Coltrane collaborator Pharaoh Sanders, a live recording from the inimitable David Thomas Broughton and a rare slice of explicit 80s disco and you have another hour’s genre mash-up of the highest quality.
